eight or nine years
eight or nine years, depending on your perspective, that is.
nine years ago today, i got in my car and drove out to Framingham, MA to have dinner with a girl i had been talking to on the phone the night before, and chatting with on IRC for days prior.
dinner was nervous. conversation was wonderful. it continued in the cold parking lot until well after the restaurant closed.
exactly one year later, we stood in a gazebo overlooking a pond, on a snowy, windy day in Marlborough, MA. i could barely hear the Justice of the Peace over the noise of the wind, and the geese.
eight years since, we’ve been through good times and bad. four apartments and two houses. a variety of jobs and colleges. driven through 34 states (and the District of Columbia).
in my adult-life before i met my wife, those statistics looked like: three rented rooms. one or two jobs. one college. a couple states. and no District of Columbia.
i love you, carrie, happy anniversary!
retrospectacular
yay! another one of those year-in-review posts, boring! these things always sound shlocky to me, and the couple of drafts i’ve written so far are no exception. so i’ll sum it up with this: my heartfelt thanks and love go out to my friends and family who have been following along with our little adventure. [...]
the overwhelming joy of normal
while extraordinary circumstances often challenge us, teach us, enrich us, and make us stronger, the return to “normal” can be ecstatic. early last week, i first read the ominous forecast: ice accretion. having not used the term “accretion” in daily conversation, i looked it up. sure, i thought, some freezing rain. some icy sidewalks and [...]
Dinner with Tom, Dick, and Harry
Tis the season to suffer through spend time with family that you see only once in a blue moon. This year–our Thanksgiving is going to be spent in Maine at my Uncle Dickie’s house. It should be quite a treat–Mike hasn’t met my Uncle Harry yet and the last time he saw Uncle Dickie was [...]
everyone is your friend in new york city
and everything is beautiful, when you’re young and pretty. or at least, that’s what They Might Be Giants told me once, in a song. last week around this time, i was attending the Future Of Web Design workshops and conference. i got in my focus and i drove down to manhattan last sunday. yeah, probably [...]
kelly and his arch enemy
i like to think of my cats as pacifists. sure, they will “hunt” some inanimate object, or infringe on the civil liberties of a wary insect when it suits their fancy. but i never imagined they would be involved in any sort of long-standing rivalry or grudge; in fact, a cold-war of sorts. when we [...]
pack monadnock
while my parents were visiting this past weekend, we took them for a trip up the auto-road in Miller State Park. it’s a paved road that runs 2½ miles up Pack Monadnock mountain. from the top, it’s possible to see Mt Monadnock to the west… the White Mountains to the north… Manchester to the east… [...]
bedroom painting project
we wanted to do something interesting with the paint in our master bedroom. the paint color that it was, while not only being poorly executed, was something similar to this. we decided on blue over white all the way around, and to create some visual interest on one wall, we did random stripes: although it [...]
mum is the word
yes, i’ve been quiet. but it’s been a busy sort of quiet. to bring everyone up to speed: we’ve moved. carrie has taken another section of the CPA i’ve been insane mad crazy busy doing web work we’re preparing for our first guests at the house and speaking of the house, i guess i should [...]
all’s quiet on the western front
yes, i have been quiet* for a while. though it’s good to see my better half finally post. we’ve been doing a lot of moving, and dealing with the trappings and tribulations that are involved with getting a new house. our new location is on the western* slope of a group of hills in the [...]
Internet + Rocks
How is it that weekends keep getting shorter? This thought struck me when I was digging out a couple of large rocks yesterday afternoon. Sure, Saturday, we waited out rain that just never ended and then Sunday was…plants and rocks. It seems that everywhere I wanted to plant a rhododendron or a forsythia, someone had [...]
welcome our newest blogger: the Mrs.
for about a decade now, mikeyboy.com has been a solo blog. just me, blathering about just what i’m thinking about, sporadically. that doesn’t really reflect who i am though, or my life and what affects me. for the past eight years, someone has been by my side for this crazy ride we call ‘life.’ and [...]
