school update: Winter ‘07 is ovah!
it’s been a long, hard fight. but i’m finally through my first semester of school in more than a decade. it was pretty rough, i didn’t realize how much reading would be involved. but i’m done. and i managed to do pretty well…
okay, i won’t make you click through. 3.53 gpa. my most successful semester… ever!
school update: midterms
so, just a quick update on how school is going for me.
i just hit midterms, and it was kind of a rough week. lot of reading to do, lot of online exams & quizzes. one nice thing, however, is that if your online quiz/exam contains only multiple choice/true-or-false questions — you get instant grades when you’re done!
so far, i’m above the class average in all my courses on all assignments, quizzes, exams, and required discussion boards online (the online equivalent of “class participation”). if i continue at this pace, i should do quite well.
you don’t know me, you don’t wear my chains
Augustana’s “Boston” on the ipod. good stuff, we happened upon them because they were opening for some of the Goo Goo Dolls / Counting Crows shows in the last tour we saw.
this is a general ramble/update; there is no direction. read on for all the latest news of the recent past and the present.
school
on the school front, things are going pretty well. i’m able to keep up, just barely sometimes, with my assignments and reading. i really need to start getting ahead a bit more, instead of spending all day sunday trying to cram in a weeks worth of study.
the only class that’s currently giving me measurable feedback on my progress is economics — i’ve scored 10/10 on 2 of 3 quizzes, 9/10 on the other.
work
speaking of sundays, this past sunday i was at work to support a software release. this time i lucked out and got an 8am to 4pm shift (previously, i was on the 1am to 8am…. ugh). pretty uneventful otherwise.
etcetera
not a lot of news otherwise; carrie is studying again for another section of the CPA. cats are … the cats. the dog would love it if we won the lottery (stayed home every day).
it begins, again.
just in case anyone was concerned that i would have extra time on my hands, we’ve taken care of that.
this week i enrolled in and began taking college courses again, after having worked exclusively since 1996. boy things are different now, especially taking classes online!
as carrie pointed out, it’s come full circle: i left college to do work online. now i’m going online to return to college. read on to get the details of the program & classes.
the degree i’m pursuing is a joint program between Edmonds Community College and Washington State University. the joint BA degree program will start me off towards an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Edmonds, and upon successful completion of that, automatically enrolls me into an online Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration: Management of Information Systems program at WSU.
if all goes well, i should be able to complete the AA degree by the end of Winter quarter 2008 (that’s March, 2008) and then i’m hoping to complete the online BA program by the following summer (June 2009).
yes, this is daunting. but as has been pointed out to me - if i had started this 2-1/2 years ago, i’d be done now.
enough blogging, i have to go back to studying!
