weekend work big picture post!
we were up to our old hijinx, partying it up this weekend. oh, the irresponsibility. here’s what early saturday morning looked like:
then this guy showed up:
a lot of shoveling. a LOT of shoveling. after breaking up the rest of the brick sidewalk.
full truckload of concrete, ready to go to the recycler. here’s your ford truck ad!
oh, and this has nothing to do with the project, but we met this puppy.
yet more shoveling… here’s a checkpoint on sunday
we got distracted a bit from the gravel, by digging out this stump:
and breaking up this concrete.
and here’s where we ended up sunday night.
coffee zombie
so, it’s been another busy busy weekend. saturday, 3 truckloads of concrete / brick / mortar went to the concrete recycler. saturday night, a support shift at work.
sunday had some work on the house, but also some fun(ner) work — got to finally install the headlights for my car that i ordered from germany. pictures coming soon!
busy weekend plus 6am morning support shift on monday = coffee zombie!
flowers update
guess what used to be here?
a slanty brick sidewalk that was almost deadly in the winter. apparently, whomever installed it didn’t realize they were locating it 1/2 over the backfill to the sewer line. so, that soil compacted, and the entire thing sloped to a dangerous degree. it’s probably been like that since it was installed, in 1966 (carrie found a quarter under the sidewalk!).
guess how it went away?
a whole lot of this:
one more weekend and it should all be gone. we found a home for the used brick via craigslist.org — one of our neighbors will be making a patio out of it.
